Fieldsof_flowers's blog: Progress…

Posted on Jun 12, 2022 4:34 PM

Well, I've definitely had some progress with my herb garden. I'm feeling a lot more accomplished, which is a good sign for a good garden. (hopefully)
The chamomile has sprouted, as well as my thyme, catnip, lemon balm, Russian tarragon, lemon basil, mammoth dill, and other things I can't remember off the top of my head. OH, and my wildflowers are ALREADY BLOOMING!! Hurray! Hurray!

We've had a ton of rain this month, and quite a bit last month as well, which is wonderful. Last night, we had hail pieces almost the size of golf balls. I was scared at first, trying to figure out what was pounding on the decks. When my mom said it was hail, I went out and checked and saw that yes, it was hail. Giant sized hail that could harm your body if you were to step out into it. Not only that, but there was lightning that just kept lighting the sky over and over again, nonstop. It was so close, and the thunder was very loud. I was extremely relieved I had stuck chicken wire over all my seedlings and plants, because the hail didn't get to all of it as bad. The chicken wire was intended to keep my cat from digging in my garden, but I realized it can be very useful for other things garden-related. Man, that storm was big. Blinking

This will probably be my last blog post in a while, just simply because we're heading over to CA for a while. I'll let you all know how my garden and other things are going when I get back. I'm stressed because I'm worried my seeds will die from lack of water, but what comes, comes. Shrug! I'm going to give them a good soak everyday until we leave. Hopefully that will keep them going.

Did I mention that I thought I had gotten rid of every single Iris, and yet so far three have popped up in my garden? Two I gave to my bro to plant, but the third I decided I would let it grow. It's always nice to have an extra flower. As long as it doesn't take the garden over. Thumbs down

By the way, I have a certain 'quiet/thinking' spot I go to on my property. There were what I thought pretty weeds growing wonderfully all over the lovely rocks, when they grew more after the rain and I saw that they are almost for sure wild blackberry bushes. So now, not only will I have a nice quiet spot, but I'll have a nice snacking spot as well! Hmm…if the rabbits and birds don't get to them first, that is. I'll let you all know how that goes too.

Until then… I tip my hat to you.
