Posted on Aug 22, 2022 5:17 PMI planted four Fall crops. I germinated them all (except for the mustard) in moist paper towels in plastic bags. Here are the crops:
Yeah, I ran out of room for the lettuce. It's unfortunate, really, because we eat a lot more lettuce than spinach in this house. I totally miscalculated the gardening space for Fall crops, though, so ended up only with enough space for four lettuce plants. I guess that's a lesson learned: plant the ones you like first!
Our weather is starting to cool down, or
was starting to cool down. Today it was 95F, which I'm sure the Fall crops didn't like too much. I've never grown spinach, lettuce or mustard, so I'm interested to see how this goes. Not expecting much, of course, but I would like to be pleasantly surprised. Wouldn't we all. Alas, we don't always get what we want.
Just like our new puppy…he's already digging everywhere, and I certainly don't want that. Kangals (which is what breed our dog is) are notorious "helpers of the garden", and they like to decide when your root crops are ready. Take a look at this from a breeder on FB. It's a picture of her Kangal "helping out" in the garden:
Oh boy, I just
can't wait for all that garden help.
I'll keep you updated on the Fall crops progression. We're having a sudden thunderstorm right now, so hopefully that will help out the young plants after today's heat.
Until next time,
