| You are experiencing a very common problem with growing gardenias indoors. It can be very difficult to transition the plants to indoor growing after they have been used to a greenhouse or the out-of-doors. Indoor heating tends to dry the air and cause the leaves and buds to drop. Also these plants are very susceptible to spider mites, which cause tiny webs on the undersides of leaves and where the leaves join the stems. The best you can do is to locate your plant away from heaters and heating vents spray your plant daily. If you find spider mites, you could try swishing the plant upside down in a sink full of soapy water on a weekly basis until the mites are gone. It helps to think of gardenias as one-season plants and be prepared to replace them each year. |
