    Single-stemmed Euphorbia from Madagascar with winter-deciduous leaves and bright red, closed cyathia produced in groups on longish peduncles from the apex. Stems have 5-6 ribs, each lined with a row of stipular spines. Slow growing to 2-3 feet or more. Intolerant of excessive winter water.
