There are over 350 diverse species in this genus of succulent plants that originated in Madagascar and Africa. The plants can be sun or shade loving, slow or fast growing, and easy or difficult to care for depending on the species.

They are often dormant in the summer and then bear clusters of small, star-shaped flowers from late fall to early spring. The mostly white, pink, or red blooms are long-lasting and can provide good winter color. The seedpods are tiny.

"Crassula is a large genus of succulent plants containing many species, including the popular jade plant, Crassula ovata. They are native to many parts of the globe, but cultivated varieties are almost exclusively from the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

Crassulas are usually propagated by stem or leaf cuttings. Most cultivated forms will tolerate some small degree of frost, but extremes of cold or heat will cause them to lose foliage and die."
