I took this photo while in Hawaii at a botanical garden. It wasn't labeled so I hope you can help with a name. Thank You!

It looks like an Aphelandra species, such as Aphelandra aurantiaca.

Hi Danita!

I believe Aphelandra aurantiaca or "fiery spike" is correct. I googled the name and found similar images to mine, including the leaves. Here's a description from the Chicago Botanical Garden:

"Each winter, the bright yellow buds of fiery spike (Aphelandra aurantiaca) open to bright red blooms from the bottom of each flower spike to the top, giving the flower the appearance of bursting into flame above deep green, glossy foliage with a silvery sheen. A native to Mexico and South America, this tropical gem can grow to 2 to 4 feet in height, but when grown in a container as a houseplant, it will only reach a third of that size."

craw garden - thank you for your suggestion!

sunkissed - thank you for your kind words!

I will enter this photo in the plant database.
