No. 32: seedling 3

Well another has bloomed. Nothing stupendous - appears to all be a yellow on a 4 foot plant. Not a too pretty yellow and it looks like it's missing some petals. I'll see what it looks like the next few days and tag and move on.

I've got about 4 more thinking of blooming. They can hurry up and open. I'm ready to see more. I'm also taking note of those I hope to collect seed from. Really, maybe I'll just do some from each plant. I haven't decided. I know who my seed producers were last year and I also know I need to leave mine on a lot longer to mature. So that's what I'll attempt to do. I'm starting to hide my tape tags in the greenery for when it's time to cut back and harvest. That's about the only plan I have. Angel tape tags of information.

Enjoy!

No. 31: a better shot of seedling 2

A very small bloom, maybe an 1 1/2" diameter. Very white petals and deep down bright yellow. The first seedling was also very bright yellow at the throat of the petal. Plant is tagged, notes taken and bloom cut and in the house to see what it does.

Looks like I've got a bunch more with buds. And a few look like more open centers. Will have to see what happens as they open. Still have a bunch of tiny blooms, no poms and nothing that I think are from my own collected seeds. I am still looking for that elusive map I made. I think I know where it is, but it hasn't sifted to the top quite yet.

More to come. I'd say end of the week maybe but we are to have high heat the next few days so maybe sooner!

No. 30: Fair week and a new seedling
Posted on Jul 16, 2022 11:05 AM

It's fair week and as a 4h mama, I'm pooped out! We don't show animals, just all the rest and it has been a crazy week. My kids did well; peppered with best in show, blues, reds and a few whites to keep them humble (well I like to think that instead of saying the Danish system keeps the limit of blues this way!). I will be glad to move off of fair project readiness. As most former 4hers know, most projects get done last minute. Whistling

But back to the seedlings!

I've got seedling number two blooming. It's small and looks to be another open center collarette-ish thus far in the unfurling.

It appears to be primarily all one shade but with time maybe something else will develop out of it.

I've been tagging as things bloom and will let them progress the season. Maybe secondary blooms will be lots more or maybe they become a productive plant. I'm game to try. I don't mind collarettes but I also don't have the garden space for them all. Maybe I can strike a deal w the MIL for next summer. I'm still noodling on that.

Lots more buds on the plants. I think definitely some that were my saved seeds have buds set. Still tiny but with hope they see something delightful.

I will be making a chart of my seedlings to bloom and the characteristics and then compare to the pot tags once I cut back.

Happy day all! Stay cool it's a humid one out there this far north and in the Midwest! Even the skeeters are limiting their activity.

No. 29: a bit different view today

Today brings a bit of a different view to the first bloom. Today it is standing so very straight and tall. Still not a total fav, I do like that it has a bright yellow at the throat of each petal. And the pink is just a happy pink. I'll see how it looks tomorrow. I'll give it some time and space. And don't mind the bug nibbles. That's just part of a garden and I just go with it.

No. 28: Totally underwhelming

Totally underwhelming! Even the size is small, the color way different then it's unfurl and we'll, an open center. I may let it throw a second bloom just to see if maybe this one was just a stressed bloom or a genetic mishap.

I mean some of the petals are interesting in the way they twist. But totally not what I expected. Unsure of what seed bunch this came from. If I clean the house, then I should find my layout - even though it did change some.

More to come! I won't just stop with this one and be all schlumpy sad. Not worth it with more delights to possibly come. I think I planted what 39?
