That Million Dollar Spaghetti Receipt
Posted on Apr 7, 2024 9:52 AM

OMG! I forgot to tell you that there is Ground Beef & Italian Sausage in there. Sorry about that. D'Oh! Some of you were thinking it was Vegan, right!

Ok, I finished the concrete steppingstone walkway after my morning walk. BTW, that walk has got my body all kinds of sore. I have sore feet, knees, and hips. The hips are from bending to work and pick up gravel. I planted the remainder of the Fire Spike this morning also. I now have 3 pods of it in the yard.

We are going to watch the Eclipse tomorrow with Ray. She has glasses and tells me it will be a 57% eclipse only for us in Florida. Some of my neighbors went to Indiana to get the Total Eclipse.

I planted some chitted potato peels this morning where the bunnies had eaten the tops off them. There were tiny little dime sized potatoes in the mound, but I left them on the ground for the critters. I replaced the wire cage over the hole so the bunnies can't get to them again. I only learned this year how to plant potatoes. You put the seed potatoes in the small hole and cover them with some soil and either water or plant before a rain. Then when the stems start growing you add some soil all around them and water some more or get rain. When they get more growth, you continue to build up the soil into a mound. This mound will hold all the big potatoes that are growing. I never knew how to do it before and that is why I never had potatoes. Gosh! Shucks! Why didn't I pay closer attention when mom was planting potatoes. After all, she was planting and digging them in the day that I was born.

Beautiful, gorgeous day here and a sunny 68 degrees. Now, how you gonna beat that? Peace & Plenty. Do you smell my Pot Roast?

The Seeds Emerge
Posted on Apr 6, 2024 5:49 PM

I didn't think those Tithonia seeds would ever sprout, but they are. I now have them on 3 sides of the house.

I'm redoing the gravel in the cracks of the big concrete steppingstones. I finished one section today and will get the rest tomorrow. There were all kinds of grass and Silene coming up in those cracks because I just had sand in between the pavers. At the time that I made them I didn't have all the gravel that I now have. I can be picky what kind of stone I choose, and I have a bunch of pieces that look like terracotta pot shards, and I love those.

Last evening I noticed that 6 of my tomato plants were infected with Leaf Miner. I got the Organic bug spray out and hooked up the hose and watered them down. Today I only saw 2 of those infected leaves and the rest disappeared. I don't know if that spray works that quickly or not, but I'll take it.

I added a street to my morning walk. A little more each day until I get reconditioned.

Last fall I threw out some seeds from Salvia 'Blue Bedder' that I had gotten at my neighbor's. Her son had trimmed off all the top growth on a huge container of SBB and threw them in the yard waste can. I was adding debris to the can and saw all of them and rescued them and hung them. They were very long stems and were already dried out. I placed them in a large container inside and threw out the seeds that fell. Well, you are not going to believe it, but I think all of those seeds are growing in my gardens. I'm almost certain that is what it is. Just yesterday I wanted to throw out all of the stems in the pot because they were looking sad and not that vibrant blue anymore, so I stripped off all the seeds which were hundreds and sowed some in my garden and 3 of my neighbor's gardens. I have other friends who would love to have some as well. I love the way they smell. I may have enough to make wreaths.

Million Dollar Spaghetti
Lasagna Noodles & Spaghetti Noodles, Red sauce, Sour Cream, Cream Cheese, and Ricotta Cheese. You know how to make Lasagna right! So, mix all those ingredients together and put the spaghetti noodles in the middle part. Layer until you reach the top and add the top Lasagna noodles then top with Parmesan & Mozzarella. Bake it! It's out of this world delicious. I'm sorry I don't have the step-by-step receipt, but you can do this.

Gully Washer ~ Tomatoes
Posted on Apr 5, 2024 3:46 AM

This old girl learned a new trick yesterday. You know the Dog Kennel, aka, Leaf Corral that I put around 8 of my tomato plants. Well, we had a gully washer, and it also blew things around, and we discovered the Kennel was not going to be very supportive of the plants once they got big enough. It knocked all the cross-section pieces that were in place to tie the limbs up and broke off a stem of one of the tomatoes.

I had a brainstorm. Why not take the kennel and make it into 2 square cubes. That is what we did, so now there are 4 tomatoes in one cube and 5 in the other and the cubes are side by side. DH then put spikes outside each cube and tied them onto the bottoms of each cube to stabilize. I got more tomatoes out of the raised bed and added them to one of the cubes and then top dressed in compost. I took another tomato plant out of the RB and added it to the garden with its own trellis.

I had to move the 2 Schefflera plants to the back because they didn't seem to like the intensity of the sun out front. I am glad I noticed this before full-blown blue blazin' sun hits. I also discovered that the tomatoes planted beside the garage wall were showing signs of being very dry already. I think it's because that area does not get direct rainfall. It is between houses and the direction of rain does not go into that area. I will have to put more water bottles around the base of those plants to give adequate water to the roots.

Our PCP visit was yesterday morning and I have put on lbs and B/P was elevated. So was my cholesterol. We finally figured out that it must be due to my stopping walking, and I went off oatmeal for quite a while. So, I started back walking yesterday and will walk every day from now on if I'm able. I'm back on oatmeal for bkfst. I need to prevent weight gain and high B/P. She said it wasn't too bad, but to me it's unacceptable. I need to stay healthy. Having said that I will tell you that I overextended my left Rotator Cuff carrying those bags of rock. I am treating it gently and medicating. It will take a couple of wks before I will feel comfortable carrying rock again. I tried to use a rake, a leaf rake mind you last evening and my RC hurt so badly.

Gardening is taking a toll on me this year. At the end of the day, we do want to enjoy our gardens. Peace & Plenty.

Fire Spike & Fig Sticks
Posted on Apr 3, 2024 4:27 AM

Barb gave me a Fire Spike bush yesterday and each stick that came out of the ground has a great set of roots. I planted 2 bunches in the front yard last evening and have a whole bucket full soaking to give away.

She has 2 pieces of her Fig tree growing with great leaves and buds that she gave to me to take whenever I want. I was afraid to move them just yet, but I think I'll go ahead and bring them home the next time we are over there. It is supposed to rain today, so I know we won't go today. We got a bunch of rock from her house yesterday.

My tomatoes have really shot up in the last 2 days after the last rain, and they are almost all in bloom.

I invited my friend Page to come down from Tennessee and make a plant run. I have all kinds of plants to give away and her mom lives right behind us.

Peace & Plenty.
