Happy Birthday Zuzu!! The database as a whole wouldn't be what it is now without you working your magic on it on a regular basis. I tip my hat to you.

Thank you, Amanda and Mustbnuts. I'd love to celebrate my birthday in the garden, but it's still too cold and wet out there. Those years of drought cured me of ever complaining about rain again, but I really would love to see a few dry days in a row before the next storm.

Happy Birthday (again) kiddo !
I'm with you in wanting a few dry days.

BTW, that Peggy Martin rose I got from ARE already has a few buds on it.
I didn't think it would bloom for 2 or 3 years.

Thanks, JD. I'm amazed by my roses from ARE. I never bought roses from that nursery until this year because the shipping rates seemed excessive, but now that some other nurseries' prices and shipping have soared, ARE's roses are a true bargain.

I hope you had a fabulous birthday Zuzu. I had a great day myself because I won second prize at the 130th Chudleigh Agricultural Show (county fair) with my covered coathanger and second prize with my flowers as well. I couldn't compete with my friend Carol because she usually wins everything she enters. She is really serious with her entries and deserves to win.

I entered my flowers in the 'arrangement in an unusual container' section because they were in a thimble. I put tiny flowers in it and a magnifying glass over the top so you could look at them in detail.

Thank you, Carol and Lola.

I'm so glad the wonderful coathanger won a prize, and that thimble is fabulous. Is it cloisonne?

Yes, it is cloisonné. My late father collected cloisonné so whenever I saw a lovely old piece I would buy it for him, but I also ended up buying smaller modern pieces if they were well made and useful. I bought him a vase once that proved to be very rare and valuable so I still look out for cloisonné at markets and garage sales just in case.

I've been collecting it for almost 50 years. My first pieces were wedding gifts in 1970. I now have half of my collection spread out among four rooms in my house and the other half hidden away in a large cupboard because it has reached the point of overkill. If I were to display all of it, my house would look like a Chinatown gift shop. Hilarious! I used to live near an auction house, so most of my pieces came from the bimonthly auctions there.

congratulations! the flower display was really unique. Zuzu, living next to an auction house would kill me. It's bad enough living so near the SVdP distribution center. I won't even let myself go there for donations, but give them to a friend to take!

It was the most expensive place I've ever lived because of that auction house, Vaporvac. Once I bought so many things that my purchases had to be delivered by moving van to my home. When the movers had carried in all of my finds, which included a set of antique wicker chairs and four Korean blanket chests, one of them remarked that I certainly must love Oriental furniture. I said that I was born and raised in Korea and my family had lost everything in the Korean war. He replied: "Looks like you just got everything back." Hilarious!
