Joyous Sunshine & Happiness

Coreopsis (Tickseed) 'Early Sunrise', added to my garden in 2017, has taught me the discipline of continuous deadheading to maintain a non-stop bloom season.

I agree with you completely and grow them in my garden, but I put them in the class of "manicure me, manicure me".( but not as bad as petunias). Great bright banner.

Wonderful banner, and words of wisdom. My personal inability to be sufficiently disciplined (read 'ruthless') in deadheading, pruning, taking up and separating, etc., was one of the reasons I gave up growing things (but not loving and appreciating what others grow).

Maggie,
I read a review about C. 'Early Sunrise' that the seeds are difficult to germinate.
Did you sow seed or have any problems?
Or did you start with a plant?

I did start with plants in 2017. Later, I saved seeds from those, and sowed (winter sowing method) with excellent results in my Northern garden. I also have a small patch of a red-eyed, threadleaf-type of coreopsis, also grown from seed. Both grow well in their rather acidic, heavy, moist clay soil, in part sun.

Thanks, Maggie! I'll try seeds. Thumbs up

BTW, I have an annual coreopsis that I found growing wild in a field
on the coast. I dug up a flat's worth when they were just 1" tall, and
brought them home. They created a wonderful field of yellow flowers
each year. Most are yellow with yellow centers, but some are white
with yellow centers.

They get ~4-5 ft tall & wide, many blooms, drought tolerant.
We get little rain, but they bloom profusely without me watering.

Would you or anyone else like some seeds? (sorry, for USA only)
I'd be happy to send you some. Just send me your address if
you want them. No charge, just like to share. Smiling

Isn't it amazing how Coreopsis thrives from your arrid sandy conditions to my heavy, wet clay? Thanks for the offering. I acquired a third variety of coreopsis seed this past fall that seem similar to your find so I'm good in that department! 😊 Thanks for reminding me to get them sown as I plan my 2021 garden.
