Yes I am still having a hard time trying to figure the best way to root cuttings. Sometimes water rooting works and sometimes it doesnt. I tried letting the cuttings root in sand or dry media it sometimes work and sometimes it doesn't.

Yes the double takes a lot longer to open. Glad you got seedlings from your momma adenium.

I don't think so but the variegation of the seedlings per my experience is not stable. I had a few months old variegated one that reverted back to just regular green leaves.

I've been trying to remember to water my seedlings every day, twice if possible, and they have a lot more leaves now.

Is there a time limit on calling them seedlings, or a size limit? Being a month shy of 2 yrs old, seedling is starting to feel wrong, but they're still so small.

I am still calling them seedlings until their first year of blooming. Then following year they are grown ups. Some of my 2 year old that I repotted late spring/summer last year are now "adult size" and some bloomed for the first time. I have a few that are still in communal pot and they stayed small. I am thinking of repotting them so they will take off and bloom. And all my 6 months+ are now going to be given weekly Agrothrive. I'm determined to see them bloom.

If it is, that's 1I x 3C.

Both are from the first batch of seeds I got, planted 2021 03 31.

1I was labelled obesum, but as the leaves are fuzzy, it might be an arabicum hybrid. It's the one with the most branches, never pruned.
3C a.k.a. Tracy was labelled Triple Flower.

I don't particularly need more seeds as I just barely have the space for the plants I already have, but it would feel like a real achievement to to have my first ever successful hand pollination and to have fully indoor grown adeniums come full cycle. At least I won't ever have to worry about the seeds blowing away as there's not a whole lot of wind in my kitchen. Big Grin

The only thing I've hand pollinated before are chilis and paprikas, and those only require a paintbrush.

Gigi dropped her last flower yesterday, so that was just over a month of full open flowers on her. I'm thinking now would be a good time to prune her back a bit. I still haven't moved any of them outdoors yet, so this would give the cuts time to callous over good. Our 17 year cicadas are just starting to emerge here and thought I'd wait and see how bad they are, I was a bit worried about them chewing the adeniums up.

Go for it Nancy! One month of blooming is quite impressive for a seedling that young. Hopefully she gives out a few branches after pruning. It might encourage her to rebloom after pruning too. Hopefully the other adeniums will show buds soon.

Yikes on cicadas chewing your Adeniums.

Curious to see if any of these will produce multi-petal bloom as pictured online. Hopefully I will find out next year.

Now here are some that survived, mystery solved not a single multi petals as pictured in Etsy online.

But some species are crispum or arabicum hybrid:

This tall one with black stem reminds me of Anaconda, long stem, small caudex (almost none) and multi branches at the top. This will be perfect for tower adenium: Lovey dubby I need to get this a nice pot.

So there it is, the cat is out of the bag. Just because the photo of the seeds online shows seeds from multipetals, they may not bloom multi petals. So far even my own hand pollinated seedlings I only saw 2 multi Petals. But still plenty with no blooms.

This makes me feel really spoiled with my Etsy seedlings. Out of 5 that have bloomed so far, 4 were double or triple. And the seeds bought as "Triple Flower" resulted in one triple and one single. And even the two that ended up single are not just regular obesum, one with very large colour changing flowers that had hints of becoming double and one with many branches and unique looking red flowers.

Still, I'm sorta partial to the Somalense with their delicate single flowers and much stronger growth than most of the others (they all broke their pots!).

What wonderful, weird and unexpected plants the adeniums are! Lovey dubby

I think I need to repot my October batch of babies into 4" pots. They're currently in 3" pots but several of them are pushing up with roots showing in the drainage hole. And once outside, I'm guessing they'll grow even faster and need the room. The last time I repotted them they were only about 2 months. Do I keep the same 50/50 cactus/perlite mix or switch them into a grittier mix like the older ones? It's like they're between being a seedling and grown, I don't want to screw them up and leave them with too little water if I switch the mix too soon.

This is the tallest one, and probably the fattest caudex, that keeps pushing up the small stones so they keep falling out now. This is one I chopped about 5" off almost a month ago and has 2 new healthy stems at the top since then. And 15 tiny branches coming out from around the base, which I think I'm going to cut all those bottom ones off. The single stem is so straight on this one and a nice evenly rounded caudex, I keep picturing it more as a real tree-type with all the foliage just at the top.

ooh, that one would make a beautiful "tree!"

It's nearly time to move the last of my summer plants off the light shelf in the basement, at which point i'll need to bring the adenium babies upstairs. The seedlings are too tall to keep the lid on their container, might have to find something else to cover them so they don't dry out (indoor plants tend to get neglected in summer, too much going on).

I didn't take a pic, but one of the smallest seedlings has two little shoots coming up rather than just one! Too cute. These are from the fall seed offering, not sure if there were possible dwarf genetics in there.
We're all learners, doers, teachers.

The branching on the bottom are happening to my seedlings too. So what I decided to do is keep the branches on the bottom growing and then I chopped off the middle shorter to get a shorter compact look:

Thumb of 2024-05-25/GigiAdeniumPlumeria/2f0a64

Here are my other ones, this one is a seedling or MD Addie. It is starting to have multi branches on the top and the bottom. So I am thinking of keeping both. I think it will be cool to have a 2-tiered blooming adenium Hilarious!

Thumb of 2024-05-25/GigiAdeniumPlumeria/1bbf82
And this one, a seedling is Rainbow Diamond, I think I will eventually prune the middle shorter and have a compact multi-branches look.

I like either single really tall (tower Adenium look) or multi branch compact and a 2-tiered adenium.

I am still keeping my seedlings (less than a year old) as 50/50 so they don't dry out too fast and switch to more gritty in the fall or winter.

This i can't decide if this will be a 2 -tiered or I might have to eventually prune the middle shorter. The lower branches are too fast growing so I will want the multi branches compact look.

I agree you have a Seller with good seeds (maybe he hand pollinated them himself) and also probably the luck of the draw versus single or multi petals. The Etsy source of my mystery supposedly multi petals seeds purchased there seeds from the overseas vendor.

In my own seeds, I could see the resemblance of the parent pod on each one that bloomed. However, I don't track all my seedlings anymore from germination to first blooming. I try to keep them as "batch" so I will not have a tendency to favor a batch over another batch.
