... Why do baby bunnies always look like baby bunnies...?

You don't need something behind them / perspective to show how tiny they are, they just look like babies... Baby (anything) tends to look like a 'baby'... And, oh so cute!

I learned it was the eyeball to skull ratio.
Babies are born with almost full-size eyeballs. Most mammals, including humans.
That is why memes like the Puss-In-Boots from Shrek have giant eyeballs to look cute and innocent. The eyeball-skull ratio is important.

The local family of raccoons have grown. There were at least 5-6 of them today playing on my lawn in the sun.

I decided to snap a pic, and the kid stuck his tongue out at me. Charming.

Today there was a cottontail flopping around on his back on the beach sand I didn't have my phone handy before he or she ran off.

With the nights we keep hitting down in the 40s, the snowshoes have spots of white - they usually are pure white in winter and pure brown in summer; this year, they can't decide which season it is. (Neither can I.) But I've been checking out the baby snowshoes because they are not all the 'same' ... one has a spot of white on its forehead, one has white feet... and this one has 4 'black feet' (never seen that before on a snowshoe).

Two deer this morning, including this young buck...


Six adult turkeys, not counting the mama - who came back with the six little turkeys. The usual complement of assorted ducks and birds (jays, juncos, chickadees, sparrows and swallows, and a Pileated woodpecker), and a raccoon in the garage rafters... plus the snowshoe hares, of which I saw (5) at once. (If you 'see' that many rabbits... how many do you suppose there actually are?)

And that was before the sun topped the east mountains or we got around to having breakfast.

Thankfully all of my garden critters are winged.
