Beautiful beds, Ginny! I too like the contrast of colors! Smiling

So the DH sells Husqvarna, huh? Did you get a new Husky sewing machine with purchase? You know, BOGO! Buy a piece of heavy Husky equipment and get a Husky sewing machine free? nodding Whistling Whistling I'm all ears!

I've had a Husky sewing machine, for 27 years, and I love it! They are the workhorse of the sewing world, in my opinion!! Thumbs up

All I did was deadhead the Stellas and I had to smooth out a couple of dug out divets between the new Skyrocket Holly plantings, and then sprinkle red pepper flakes there, today.

Grocery shopping did me in for the rest of the day! Blinking Glare

Got about 1/4 of the garden weeded and mulched. Took my time and enjoyed the beautiful day. Will try to finish up today. Also spreading my 4th 40lb bag of Alfalfa pellets. First year using those and I see a big difference.

Deadheaded and did pollinations. Cut the scapes on a few seedlings which I don't want to see anymore (bad blooms). Was thinking of cutting a couple of others, but their blooms were quite respectable today, so they got a reprieve. Hilarious!

Wrote down the crosses... will have to clip them later today, as we are going back and forth for car service.
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

Since I has surgery in March to remove a large tumor I have had more energy than I've had in years. I've got all my weeding and mulching done, even the new seedlings. The vegetable garden is starting to produce lettuce, turnips and the first planting of radishes is about done. The blueberry bushes are loaded again this year but I'm afraid the heat might fry them . Today I started watering with the forecast of temperatures of 95-99 predicted for the next 5 or more days. Lots of scapes but no blooms yet except on the Asiatic lilies and my 125 rose bushes. I started my last 40 seeds I got from Eurodaylily off the Lily Auction. Paul has some really nice looking seedlings I got crosses of. My wife and I take care of flower beds for the city so finished weeding and mulching those this week. Looking forward to just relaxing and staying out of the heat now.

@Labelboy I'm happy for you! Hurray! Hurray! I pray that your health is restored for good! Group hug

Today, I spread diatomaceous earth around the back yard perennial gardens. The slugs are just going crazy! Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some giant slugs hiding amongst the hostas! Blinking Blinking Yuck!! The bugs are just horrible too, this year! The daylily leaves are really taking a beating!! Grumbling Grumbling I think that the worst culprits are earwigs, here, and they are elusive little stinkers and hard to kill! Blinking Blinking Plus, earwigs are just about the creepiest insect, in my mind!!

If any of you commercial daylily outfits/hybridizers have any suggestions on earth-friendly 'bad insect' control, I . am . all . ears!! (So to speak Hilarious! )

Oh, I forgot! I gifted some daylilies to the jerkwadd's girlfriend, on the other side of the fence. With his help, she is tearing out the ex wife's perennial gardens and starting all over!! Blinking Blinking It's a lot of work, but she has youth on her side!! Green Grin! ...after all, she *is* 20 years his junior!! Hilarious! (.....actually mine, too Glare Glare ) She had expressed to me that she doesn't want "the typical yellow and orange daylilies", and, well, I just *had* to enable and spread the Daylily Love! After all, it *is* our mission!! Whistling Whistling She is quite the opposite personality of his ex... very, very aproachable, nice, and very outgoing. Smiling ........and he is growing on me, slowly! Blinking Blinking so there is hope for complete peace with him! After all, that's all we humans ever want, right? Smiling Group hug

Funny thing, yesterday, while we were talking, he grabs a beer for himself and while cracking it open, she yells "Hey where's mine?!" So after he came back out with her beer, he asked me if I wanted some water. I politely said no, and later in the conversation, I told him that I didn't like beer at all, and I would use a cup half full of beer as a decoy, at college parties, so I didn't have drunk people constantly hounding me to get more beer for myself. Then he said that they have plenty of wine, and I said, "Well, let me just bring over a 5 gallon bucket!" I'm all ears! Whistling Whistling Hilarious! He then looked at me and said, "Really?! I didn't figure you as 'the type'!", and I thought to myself, "I may be Catholic, and I asked him to not say the "F" word around our girls, (It's every other word with him, which is disturbing to hear, on a personal and moral level, so often in conversation! Blinking ) but I'm not dead, for crying out loud!! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing (I hope this doesn't offend anybody, as I'm fully aware that alcohol is strictly prohibited, in certain denominations, and I have nothing but respect for all denominations! Additionally, some have had horrible a experience with an alcoholic friend or family member, and my intent, here, is not to offend at all!! Group hug Sinners, we Catholics are, and we undeniably live in glass houses! Anyway, I thought it to be quite humorous, bc *specifically* what 'type' they sized me up as, I'm not completely sure! Not that I care! "greengrin: Rolling on the floor laughing I am pretty certain that he and the ex thought me to be a prude, and then when I said a swear word (not the "F" word, mind you! Blinking ), during an argument between the three of us, the ex called me a hipocrite, and I said, "I go to church *because* I'm a sinner!" (among many other reasons)! Yes, I am completely guilty of saying that word, but I have to be *so* angry, under completely extenuating circumstances, that I'm spitting nails, before it shamefully spews out of my mouth, not to excuse it, by any means! Blinking but it isn't used as every other word, either! Blinking

INDIANA (Zone 5b)
The excitement is building here in northern Indiana as i will welcome my first bloom this morning. Clarity of Vision will take the prize this year as my first. I watered a bit tonight and noticed i have scapes on about 1/3 of my 150 beauties. Yes it will not be long now for us to join the south in daylily bloom blissfulness. Say that 10 times fast.
Tomorrow we will start a 3 day cooker with temps in the 90s. I have 75 feet of black heavy duty garden hose (black mamba) that is ready to drench anything thirsty in sight. Father in law picked it up at a garage sale for 3 bucks brand new and sold it to me his favorite son in law (only son in law) for cost. She sports a magic wand with 10 diff. water settings (most of them useless) and she gets the job done.
Enough about the hose lets talk plants. Mine are giant this year thanks to good dirt and monsoon rains in early spring. Could have had me a rabbit the other night. Had him cornered good while the new puppy hung back and watched. Remembered he had teeth so just told him to get off my property.
Well thats it for now, i should have some pics to post soon barring any deer invasion into my addition. If i ever see any of them in my yard i going to ask them to leave or turn black mamba on em. nodding

Kevin, you really told that rabbit a thing or two! nodding nodding Great example to raise the puppy to control his animal instincts!! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Whistling

Got nothing done yesterday. Had two doc appointments and was tuckered by the time I got home. Glare BUT not before having some fun at the local Busy Beaver first! Green Grin! Whistling Went in there for aquarium grade silicone glue. They didn't have any, and I left with a hose nozzle, torch fluid, a torch replacement canister, two cans of spray paint, some roasted sunflower seeds to snack on, and $45 bucks less in my pocket!! Big Grin Whistling Whistling Thing is, the sunflower seeds were unsalted, and I didn't look at the bag before buying and, therefore, opening it Glare (added salt at home, though Green Grin! ), and the silicone glue was the last stop, on my list (Oh, wait!! Glare ) in the store...... Moral of the story.......apparently, I must write that dang list, even if it *is* only one thing! D'Oh! D'Oh! I will be doing a little bit of weeding before it gets too hot and then will go to Lowe's to get a new birdbath top for the birdbath. Mine sprung a leak last year and I sprayed it with flex steel. Than held for the summer but it is leaking again and time to replace the 30 plus year old top. Only $l5 at Lowes so I think that is less money than buying another can of flex steel.
