Can quarter the larger, but I'm sure there are many more Epi fruits much more worth the effort.

Unfortunately there's a lot of hot air, no substance, in many reports.

Cheers.

Looking for something else, came across the montage I made up for someone.

Thought others might enjoy it.

Weather definitely changed, cooler, very windy, Winter not far away, desperately looking for some rain, well's drying up.

Cheers.

Brother harvested a fruit from one of my hybrid Pitahaya.

His report:

Brix 13.4. Day 44 from pollination.

Very tasty and juicy, nice fruity floral taste, as I remember that large one you had.

Always good to have a good report on efforts made.

One thing I should have added, there is no direct correlation between a high Brix reading and flavor, have eaten fruit with a Brix reading of >20Brix having no flavor worth mentioning.

Cheers.

May I add yummy looking to Smiling

Do you think growing conditions could have a lot to do with flavor?
Like better in some years/areas ?
I have noticed it in (other fruit) peaches for example.

Sorry for the delay things have been busy here.

If you read https://growables.net/informat... you will see mention of metaxenia. The paper mentioned is https://europepmc.org/backend/....

Further
In the Dictionary of PLANT BREEDING:
metaxenia:the influence of pollen on maternal tissue of a fruit outside the embryo sac (i.e., edible fruit tissues); the phenomenon is seen in >>> dates and sometimes called zenia bot

date palm:
A palm tree; it has a subtropical, semiarid origin in the Middle East; this is possibly the oldest plant domestication in the world; the plant is dioecious and breeding is exceptionally difficult; propagation by seeds is a waste of time, because of the loss of fruit quality, and vegetative propagation with basal suckers is essential;the quality of the date fruit is affected by metaxenia; a new-encounter killer disease "Bayoud disease" (Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. albidinis) is spreading inexorably from Morocco eastwards; the female tree produces the brown oblong fruit, dates, in bunches weighing 9–11 kg; dates are an important source of food in the Middle East, being rich in sugar; they are dried for export; the tree also supplies timber and materials for baskets, rope, and animal feed; the most important species is native to northern Africa, Southwest Asia, and parts of India, it grows up to 25 m high; a single bunch can contain as many as 1,000 dates; their juice is made into a kind of wine; Phoenix dactylifera (Palmae), 2n = 2x = 36; 2C DNA content 1.9 pg fore hort

Personally I have found different pollens can affect fruit size, flavor and Brix reading.

Hope it helps.

Cheers

The pot was standing next to the plant shown in https://garden.org/thread/view....

The result answers the question posed in https://garden.org/thread/view..., yes, at least for this situation, the new plant is self fertile and seed was viable.

Cheers
