Things that are comforting
Posted on Apr 2, 2022 2:00 PM

I think there are many things that are comforting in this world that varies depending on the person. When I'm feeling scared, anxious, sad, or depressed there's always something out there in this vast world that can give me comfort.
One thing that has always been comforting to me is the sound of planes in the sky, and seeing the streaks of white made from them. Maybe it's because I know that people are busy and traveling and that the pilot is going to do his best to protect those people from a plane crash. Or maybe it's because I've always had planes around since I was very young, and would sometimes wake up to the sound of them drifting through the window on a summer night. I don't know why they are comforting, all I know is that they are to me.
The sounds of crows is another comforting thing. I know why, though, this time. It brings back nostalgic feelings of me waking up to them in a neighborhood in California. The neighborhood was filled with all my friends and my brothers' friends, that had been my age and older, and we would play so many active games together each day. It would fill with laughter, and of course, arguments as well. We were literally like a family, all of us dozen of kids and my mom. That's how close we stuck together. And on top of all that noise we would make, the crows would add in their own laughter. That's why crow noises are so comforting to me. It's brings back the memories of my family of friends I had to leave.
Nature in general has always soothed my soul. Why would I get mad at nature, when they are so innocent and go about their business without a complaint? The simple process of a flower opening or the chirp of a bird…it's all so soothing. Makes me forget my problems for a little while, and be thankful for the things I do have. Be thankful that my life isn't nearly as hard as another person out there in the world that is being abused or has to work very hard to earn a scrap of bread. Yes, I'd definitely have to say nature is one of the biggest comforts in my life.
City lights can be a big comfort too. I know, other people may disagree, but I love city lights on a dark night. Just knowing someone is out there going on with their daily life is always comforting, foolish as it sounds. We'd walk in the city lights going to a McDonald's just by our house to get a hot chocolate on a chilly night with our friend, Franco. It was so nice! That's why city lights are very comforting at times.
Anyway, when you're feeling down, try to remember your comforts in the world, and reflect on them. It helps very much. Smiling
I hope you all are having a great day! I tip my hat to you.

Deer
Posted on Mar 16, 2022 6:36 PM

Yes, I know, I'm a sucker for deer. But can I help it? They are adorable. Every evening practically, a female deer brings her two fawn. Then along comes her other huge family of sisters. Anyway, since the birds are done eating the bird food in the evening, she finishes it off for them. I saw them out there and decided I would cut up a bunch of apples for them. At the time, it was only the momma and her two fawn. Well, when I put those apples out and did my whistle to call them back, guess what happened? This:

(These photos are from my upstairs window so I'm sorry they have such bad focus)
Anyway, as you can see, she brought back her WHOLE FAMILY and they just flocked that bird feeder filled with apples. Hilarious!

Photography and Life

I like taking photos. It's one of the joys in my life to do, especially if it captures something special. Here is a picture I took of my little brother's hand

I know exactly why I took that picture. It was because he was trying to balance on one leg, and was grasping at the counter as if his life depended on it. But then I realized in some ways, life is grasped like that at times. So I thought that was interesting and decided to take a picture of it.

Here is a picture of mossy stone surrounded by pine nettles. I thought it was just beautiful because of the life it still shows. Here it is surrounded by dead nettles and frosty ground, and yet the moss stays green living off of stone. It's amazing how some plants thrive Thinking

This was a small, lone tree surviving steadily amidst the big guys. Yet it was a one and only beauty compared to all the other large, majestic trees.

And then of course, we have sunshine. Sunshine never dies out, even when it hides its smiling face behind frowning clouds.

And then lastly, we have the gorgeous aspen, always looking beautiful and lively no matter what season it is. Even with a biting frost, it takes the burden cheerfully and patiently. See what cameras can capture? They can frame and capture life almost perfectly, as long as you have the eye to look for it.

Just like the garden photos I see, it's all life. And it brings hope and happiness to a day that otherwise might've been dull and depressing. I tip my hat to you.

Update (on things in general)
Posted on Mar 3, 2022 12:48 PM

Today is very foggy, some of the foggiest I've seen since living here. Yesterday it was very sunny and spring-like day. The birds were out, the deer were playful, and I felt so happy because it felt like spring. Then today came, curling it's fist around the sunshine and covering the sky with a heavy cloak of fog. Sighing! Oh well, I'm hoping that it will snow at least. We need as much water as possible for this drought! Rain or snow, I'm good, as long as it's water.
Ok, now you know the boring details of the weather. Time to move on.

If you've read my other blog, you will remember that this was my original list of herbs:
1. Basil
2. Dill
3. Sage
4. Chives
5. Thyme
6. Feverfew
7. Sunset hyssop
8. Bee balm
9. Lemon balm
10. Rugosa rose
11. Roman chamomile
12. Alpine strawberries

But I've changed the list to this instead:
1. Lemon Balm
2. Chamomile
3. Oregano
4. Ornamental grass
5. Lemon Basil
6. Mint
7. Clary Sage
8. Chives
9. Winter thyme
10. Dill
11. Feverfew

And the plants I'm adding to make my garden even better are:
1. Cat grass
2. Baby's Breath
4. Foxglove
5. Columbine
6. Wildflowers

Cat grass I'm adding because my cat adores grass and I'm hoping that by adding it to my garden, her scent and her presence will keep the little critters (bunnies, mice, voles, etc.) at bay.

Oh! My lemon basil seeds have sprouted, by the way Hurray! I was so excited when I saw the sprouts. Now I'm just going to let them grow until spring. I read this long article on starting herbs in winter, and I at first was skeptical until I saw the woman (the author who wrote the article) had the same weather as us, and she even started her herbs earlier than I did. Her pictures were of her herbs in spring, and they were so nice and healthy, just by leaving them alone in milk jugs!
My chamomile is already in the milk jug as well, now I have two more milk jugs that can be used for more of my herb seeds. I'm also using deli meat containers; really anything that can be useable. Big Grin

Argh, my neck hurts. Grumbling I'm guessing it's from the sudden change of weather. My muscles (legs, ankles, feet, etc.) always start to hurt whenever there's a change of weather Thumbs down

Wishing you all a nice, productive time in your gardens Thumbs up

Ciao

Pray
Posted on Feb 26, 2022 9:40 AM

Everyone, as LysmachiaMoon did, I ask you to pray for ALL the people of Ukraine, because though we may not like it, this is war and a lot of the innocent citizens are getting hurt and forced out of their homes. And prayer is the only thing we can do at the moment. Prayer is one of the strongest weapons, and I ask you to please use it for the Ukrainian people.
