Progress…
Posted on Jun 12, 2022 4:34 PM

Well, I've definitely had some progress with my herb garden. I'm feeling a lot more accomplished, which is a good sign for a good garden. (hopefully)
The chamomile has sprouted, as well as my thyme, catnip, lemon balm, Russian tarragon, lemon basil, mammoth dill, and other things I can't remember off the top of my head. OH, and my wildflowers are ALREADY BLOOMING!! Hurray! Hurray!

We've had a ton of rain this month, and quite a bit last month as well, which is wonderful. Last night, we had hail pieces almost the size of golf balls. I was scared at first, trying to figure out what was pounding on the decks. When my mom said it was hail, I went out and checked and saw that yes, it was hail. Giant sized hail that could harm your body if you were to step out into it. Not only that, but there was lightning that just kept lighting the sky over and over again, nonstop. It was so close, and the thunder was very loud. I was extremely relieved I had stuck chicken wire over all my seedlings and plants, because the hail didn't get to all of it as bad. The chicken wire was intended to keep my cat from digging in my garden, but I realized it can be very useful for other things garden-related. Man, that storm was big. Blinking

This will probably be my last blog post in a while, just simply because we're heading over to CA for a while. I'll let you all know how my garden and other things are going when I get back. I'm stressed because I'm worried my seeds will die from lack of water, but what comes, comes. Shrug! I'm going to give them a good soak everyday until we leave. Hopefully that will keep them going.

Did I mention that I thought I had gotten rid of every single Iris, and yet so far three have popped up in my garden? Two I gave to my bro to plant, but the third I decided I would let it grow. It's always nice to have an extra flower. As long as it doesn't take the garden over. Thumbs down

By the way, I have a certain 'quiet/thinking' spot I go to on my property. There were what I thought pretty weeds growing wonderfully all over the lovely rocks, when they grew more after the rain and I saw that they are almost for sure wild blackberry bushes. So now, not only will I have a nice quiet spot, but I'll have a nice snacking spot as well! Hmm…if the rabbits and birds don't get to them first, that is. I'll let you all know how that goes too.

Until then… I tip my hat to you.

Sunsets
Posted on May 27, 2022 9:31 AM

Sunsets are beautiful. They're an array of glory that people can marvel at. There is a sense of peace when looking at the country sky to me. The birds are starting to grow peaceful and quiet, but every now and then, a meadow lark or some other bird will sporadically say goodnight until the last rays of sunshine disappear. It's as if the sun is saying goodbye, and is putting on a last show for you until it rises again to say good morning. Sometimes, if it's feeling extra special, it'll create a beautiful pink and orange sunrise with the help of clouds. Maybe to say 'Look at me! I'm back!'
Here are a few of my favorite sunsets:

The sky was so blue in these photos, and the trees so green! It was extra special with that unusual peach color.

The one above was in the city. The red sun was reflecting off the pavement, and I typically don't have a chances of seeing the sun reflect that way, so I was excited and snapped a picture.

The gold sunsets are some of the best. Like blinding jewelry against a creamy sky.

The photo above is I think my favorite. It was beautiful the way these small clouds were almost completely gold, and the rest of them gray. And if you look at the clouds in the very background, you can see that they're all gold!

Sunsets will remain one of my favorite things to look at. Nothing can take a sunset out of the sky. Even if there is destruction all around, the sun fights on. Hurray!

Depressed
Posted on May 16, 2022 8:24 AM

I'm feeling depressed. Some of my herb seeds didn't work out at all, and when that happens, I feel like nothing will work out. Yes, sometimes I go to the extreme, but I really do feel that way. So you know what I'm going to do? Even if it takes forever, I'm planting all the seeds that didn't work out directly in the soil in my garden…because obviously they despised being started in jugs. Here are some that didn't work out:
1. Winter thyme
2. Chamomile
3. Clary sage
4. Lemon balm (only one sprout out of all those seeds I did)

With the clary sage, I started another jug because I read that they don't like being watered too much, and now I have a whole bunch of large sprouts that look like they could do fine. Haha, take that! I knew you would fail, Sage, so I started another one of you!

At least I have some hope. My Tarragon has sprouted, and so has my lemon basil (not balm) and they both look healthy, so I'm happy about that.

Yesterday we saw the Blue Angels. It was amazing. I'd much rather see the pilots that flew those things than a movie star (as my mom put it) any time of the day. In my eyes, they are one of the coolest and most hardworking people I've ever seen or heard/read about. I can't believe I was able to see them passing by in their cars with one police car up front and another in back! It was exciting and made my day. It was one of the best/funnest experience I've had in a while; the whole show in general! If you ever get a chance to go to an air show, go to it. You'll like it so much and never regret it. Hurray!

Warm Nights and the Staying of Snow
Posted on Apr 23, 2022 12:33 PM

I feel like snow has a mind of its own. I think it's telling all the people in the Black Hills of South Dakota that it's here to stay. Well guess what? We're telling it it's NOT here to stay!
Yesterday night we had a beautiful/frightening storm of rain, lightning, and cracking thunder. The night was warm and it poured on and off up to 2:00 a.m. or past. I woke up once to hear the rain smacking against my window, and at first couldn't fall back asleep because of how loud it was. I guessed that tomorrow it would be warm/humid and the ground would be all wet with rain and the birds would be out twirling and dancing in the mud. My guess was far from right. I mean, faaaar from right.
Instead, I woke up to snow and a below freezing temperature. Now the ground is covered in snow and big, fat, fluffy snowflakes are falling. Who would have ever thought that it would turn from a warm lightning and thunder storm to freezing snow and a gloomy, spitting sky? Certainly- no DEFINITELY not me. At least we are getting moisture from both the rain, hail, and snow.
Here are pictures of the lightning, and then here are pictures of the snow:

Sorry, I did them out of order.

Don't get me wrong, I really am thankful to Him that provided the rain for us last night and early this morning, as well as the snow. The lakes need to be quenched of their thirst and the ground as well. Not to mention my plants, the animals, our pond, etc…you get the gist.
I hope everyone is having a happy Saturday despite crummy/crazy weather. I'm super excited because I got some more seeds, which I have to plant very soon. I also got another plant! Baby's Angel's Tears…? I'll have to look at the tag. All I know is that it is adorable, and it makes me happy just looking at it.
Alright, I have to go work. Enjoy your day, and keep up hope for Spring weather, and if not…keep up hope for Summer. Thumbs up
