Lost track of time...
Posted on Nov 10, 2017 12:00 PM

Wow, it has seriously been a minute since my last post. Guess that happens when you're having sooo much fun and lose track of time.

So, I was cleared by my doc back on October 27th to wean away from my walking boot and start walking as much as I can tolerate. I've thrown the boot in the corner and haven't looked back. Physical Therapy is going well and I am walking almost normal again. I'm glad too because there is sooo much to do that my honey do list for myself is longer that the one my DW has for me.

Here are few photos of some of what I've been up too. Seedlings anyone?

Even with 60 seedlings growing in a shallow raised bed that need to be potted up, I have started another 35 seed. These are from a couple crosses I did this past season and one from 2016. Can you say Hemerohaulic.

After soaking the seed in water H2O2 solution for a week I put them in damp paper towels, wetted with the soaking solution. I let them chill in the fridge for a couple weeks.

Ready to break open bags and put seed in trays saved from the recycle bin.

Some had started to germinate before putting in the fridge. They're discolored but should be fine.

Here are the tags written with the crosses and number of seeds.

They have arrived...
Posted on Sep 29, 2017 8:56 AM

Wow, it has been a minute or two since my last post.

So, I though that I would share that they have arrived. On Tuesday of this week, I received the Daylily's from Randy and Cindy at our Club meeting. They are the ones shown in my last post.
I didn't get any pictures or the fans but they are nice and healthy. I put them in a bucket with about 1 inch of water in the bottom to keep them hydrated until planting. Yesterday, I finally hobbled on out to get them potted up.

What a sight, and it was a task to say the least. You should have seen it.

Imagine if you will, my leg with broken foot propped up on the knee cart. Picking up bags of mushroom compost, garden soil and pine fines to dump into the wheelbarrow. Then balancing myself to mix it all together. All while adding fertilizers, and Epsom salts into the mix. I would mix, move my cart, mix some more, move my cart and mix some more. Then filling my pots and planting the CVs. Kind of brings a whole new dimension to the terms "Daylily Addiction". *Insert Loud Laughing But, perseverance prevailed and I have five very nice new daylily's all potted up and ready to start their recovery. I was able to share a couple fan with my Mother and Sister too and that makes it all worth it.

Additions in Sept

Looks like after a LillyAuction win or three and a couple directly purchased from Dragons Meade Daylily Garden, I'll add these in September.

This along with photo rights, is a Tim Bell introduction.

Recovery and bored out of my mind
Posted on Aug 13, 2017 11:26 AM

Last Tuesday the surgery was performed on my right foot. Everything went better than expected according to the doc.
So I sit here again, looking out the glass of my storm door wishing I was out there working. I'M BORED OUT OF MY MIND! So according to the doc, I'm doing too much! Ahh phewwy!

Hopefully though in a few weeks, I'll be kicking it again. Of course I'm already behind. So I'll have to bust my tail end to catch up.

I inquired about adding a couple more Daylily's though, from Randy and Cindy Fleming of Dragons Meade.
They are June Carter and Ginger Swallowtail. With any luck, they'll be delivered at our next club meeting in Sept. I'm already receiving Spacecoast Art Deco from them.

Aggravation and behind big time...
Posted on Jul 31, 2017 6:30 PM

Here I sit, day 12 watching everything from behind the windows of my front door feeling aggravated.

I mentioned day 12 because on the 19th I was on day 2 of saddle training with my Mare, Zara. She'd done wonderfully until she spooked while I was standing in the stirrup. Pushing away apparently had me a little more airborne than I remember. They tell you to tuck and roll when falling to the ground, but it's hard for me to tuck these rolls in anymore. Insert laughing out loud here. Anyway so instead of tucking and rolling, I stuck the landing. To bad, because all 230lbs of me, planted my right foot firmly and the force created the same effect of a level three sprain. X-rays the night of revealed no fractures. However, after some of the swelling went away, and a follow up on the 28th for more X-rays they revealed two fractures in the calcaneus (heel). I have bruising all the way up to my knee, and my foot is about 3 times it's normal size still today. So, an MRI tomorrow to ensure there are no surprises and along with a visit to the fracture clinic, and the sportsmen clinic too.

About the only way I can get around is with the aid of crutches, or crawling. Meanwhile the weeds are growing, the lawn needs mowing the few Daylily's I have blooming need to be deaheaded and a proliferation on a couple CVs need to be planted. So here I sit feeling aggravated. Guess the DW will need to learn fast how to use the mower. Insert more laughing.

Here's a picture of my Zara.
