New Roof!
Posted on Jan 4, 2022 9:55 AM

Finally got out to take a picture of our new roof after a week of fog, drizzle, and cloudy days. The brown roof is the old one and the green roof is the new one! Wife and I both love the new color. Next is the trim and new gutters - will also be green. Then new windows. It's amazing what really getting into gardening will do to make you want to fix up your house! Ha! Ha! Ha!

January in Virginia...our one month of winter
Posted on Jan 3, 2022 5:54 PM

It's been rainy, foggy, and really windy for days now. Today actually got cold! Then some white rain came down and made the roads wet. It was so cold and windy all of my little feathered friends used our entryway for shelter. When my wife opened the front door she scared them away. But my feeders were loaded with birds in spite of the fact that the feeders were swaying all over the place in the wind. Beginning of February I start looking for spring. I hope we'll get one good snowfall this year. Doesn't happen very often!

Winter in Virginia!
Posted on Dec 23, 2021 1:01 PM

Well, here it is the 23rd of December and I still have roses blooming! Cut off a beautiful fully formed and open Mr. Lincoln bloom and brought it into the house for my wife. Didn't even have to get close to the rose with the nose. It was really fragrant! My Golden Showers climbing rose is getting ready to open another bloom. Nights are getting down to the mid 30s but the daytime highs are still in the 50s and 60s. So much for the coldest winter on record theory so many were prophesying.

Roses in Bloom!
Posted on Nov 10, 2021 8:50 PM

The weather is beautiful here! Sunny and about 70 degrees (F). The roses are loving it! My Golden Showers rose bush is putting on new lateral growth and looks like it's preparing for a new flush of blooms. The Red Knockout roses are still blooming and growing! Beautiful! But we are talking NOVEMBER after all!

Bluebird On My Shoulder...Well, Almost!
Posted on Oct 16, 2021 8:15 AM

Sat outside on my newly built garden bench drinking my coffee this morning. The weather was gorgeous! When the most beautiful Eastern Bluebird flew in and sat on my bird feeder. The sun was rising and lit up his feathers so beautifully! That was one of those times I wish I had my camera with me, but I didn't.
