Thankful, Blessed
Posted on Nov 27, 2014 10:41 PM

Blessed. Good Thanksgiving. Baked chicken, ham, cornbread dressing, homegrown green beans, creamed potatoes, homemade potato rolls, pumpkin pie, pecan pie. Did not cook as much this year, just us 4 for dinner today.
Remembering & wishing Mom was here. Thanksgiving just isn't the same without her. 3 yrs. gone and still miss her. Momma Bood gone 30 yrs. Thankful for all the good memories of her and her mother, "Momma Bood". All the cooking lessons, I learned by being there watching, helping. I can still hear Momma Bood "you can't make good dumplings or dressing without baking your hen or turkey".
Can't remember how long I've made the Potatoe rolls, must be close to 45 years. Mom brought the recipe home from work when we were kids. I started baking in high school. Learned to cook the scratch way from those two wonderful women.
Did not make homemade Cranberry orange pecan relish & yes it will be made for Christmas. Dinner wasn't complete without it.
NOTE to self, do not use Smart Balance baking sticks for pie crust again!
Racoons are at it again, tore through bottom of chicken coop and thankfully only got the rooster. My 2 hens are back in the old rabbit hutch for tonight. Will have to get hubby to repair it. Of course I shall help him as he hates my chickens. Why, because if I leave them out late in summer they roost in the peach tree & he doesn't like that. Why ???? Don't bother me, I know where to find them.
Waiting on seed catalogs to come in mail so I can see what I might like to try this coming year.
Looking forward to our "sister outing" this coming Sat. Moms 4 girls are going to a dinner theater in Pigeon Forge.
Hope everyone had a blessed day. Sweet memories.

11-25-14 another good day
Posted on Nov 25, 2014 5:57 PM

Another beautiful 50+ degree day.
Finally figured out my problem getting potted plants to live, (sedum, semps.) soil to wet. Mostly my hypertufa
pots. Late summer started turning them upside down to empty. Some needed their holes bigger, done that, then added rocks bigger than drain holes over them, then abt. 1" of pea gravel. Added more crushed rock, coarse sand, more pea gravel and bagged top soil. Took off some of the wet soil & repotted w/new soil mix.
Transplanted some zoysia roots today pulled out of Peony bed.
Hubby got first deer this year today. Now I need 3 more. Off to packing house in morn. Grind, tenderloin, round/sirloin roast. I don't buy beef I use deer instead. Free range, all natural meat.

Nov. 24, 2014 beautiful day
Posted on Nov 25, 2014 10:30 AM

Up in 50's yesterday. Pulled weeds, dug out wild violets around Peonies.
My daughter had swift moving attack of bronchitis so off we go to Dr.

Warning:
If you have or have had digestion problems for years GET your pancreatic enzymes checked. I will now be on Creon (to help digest food) for life. Had bad gallbladder removed in July, full of strawberry seed shaped stones. Never really had typical gallbladder symptoms. Ultra sound found it.

11-23-14 Little Missy
Posted on Nov 23, 2014 1:04 PM

Found a solid green stem on Little Missy today. We're back in the 50 degrees now with rain, so I set her outside. Pulled the green stem to pot up to see if it turns out to be the one I call Little Missies sister. Hummm did I spell that right?

14 degrees Nov. 19, 2014

Ouch, don't like it this cold. Thankful that water didn't freeze. Of course we turned on light in pump house, opened cabinet doors, left a trickle of water running in kitchen. We had frozen pipes 31 yrs. ago & you do learn from mistakes.
I am so cold natured anyway. Wearing extra undershirt and pants. Hate to see the gas bill next month. Reminder go get new carbon monoxide detector today.
Have started my winter cleaning since I can't play outside. For some reason I like to clean windows in winter. Running duster over walls, you know the drill. Vacuum everywhere as long as back holds out. Where does so much dust come from????????????
