Another gorgeous day A little hot, but I'll take it any day over our winter..... Summer just isn't long enough here in New England.
I think we hit at least 90 today; low humidity which is always good. Here's some pictures from around the garden
Clematis NOID
Iris don't know the name; I purchased from Schreiner's about 15 years ago
Madame Plantier
NOID rose Purchased from Heirloom Roses about 15 years ago Beautiful, large shrub rose (7' x 5')
And, here's another carefree rose Mike's Old Fashion Pink (aka Bon Chance). Bred, Introduced by the late Malcolm 'Mike' Lowe of Nashua NH. I had the great fortune of visiting Mike each Father's Day for his annual sale. Not many can hold a candle to Mike's knowledge of roses.... A true gentleman
'Malcolm ("Mike") Lowe became interested in roses as a young man in the 1960s while stationed in Europe with the Air Force. By the 1970s he was teaching his three-year-old son all the Latin names. Mr. Lowe served as president of the New England and New Hampshire Rose Societies and Yankee District Director of the American Rose Society and contributed to Modern Roses XI, ARS's encyclopedia of roses in commerce and cultivation. He received the Lester F. Harrell Award for significant contributions to the study, preservation and popularity of old garden roses in America. ' (from http://loweroses.com/about.htm...)
Here's information on 'Bon Chance' (Mike's Old Fashion Pink)

A photo of Mike's rose garden (he had over 4,000 roses in his 2 acre garden ).
And, had to get a picture of the girls drinking water from a porous rock in the bird bath. I purchased this rock at an aquarium store -- I think it might be limestone..?? The bees love it
Happy Gardening
An absolutely perfect weekend. Nearly a cloud in the sky both Saturday and Sunday; 80's with slight breeze. Simply perfect. Finally caught up on cutting back the bittersweet; it will soon be back for another battle. Here are some pictures from the garden today

Another windy, chilly day here in southern NH..... can't believe it's been so chilly for this time of year. Spent today battling bittersweet ..... this vine is keen on taking over my garden..... It's a terrible thug and twines around anything and everything eventually strangling the tree, shrub, rose....etc.
I took a break from the bittersweet to photograph some of the things blooming in the garden
Madame Plantier rose
Nippon Beauty peony bud
Nippon Beauty (a little beat up from the wind today)
Lupine
The weather has been unseasonably cool; almost chilly here in southern NH the last few days. Today was cool with showers; 60's. The tomatoes and peppers have all but stopped growing - I think they're sulking. Poor babies.
I spent the day with NEDS (New England Daylily Society) at the home of a past president that sadly is no longer with us. His widow very generously offered his daylily collection to the club. Paul's love of daylilies was quite apparent in his garden; impeccably maintained (plants labeled and neatly laid out in numerous garden beds). Although it was cool with showers; a fun time was had by all. We had 4+ pickup trucks full of daylilies by end of the day wow! It was quite a sight to behold.
Roses are starting to bloom Here are some pictures of William Baffin
Been so busy round here past few weeks. Just haven't had a minute to blog. May 21st weekend - road trip to Newark OH for my niece's high school graduation party. Couldn't help myself; just had to do some plant shopping on our trip. We visited Amity Farm hostas in Alexandria OH http://www.amityfarm.com/ Lovely gardens. They dig the hosta for you while you wait; they have some in pots as well. I picked up Mini Skirt and Mighty Mouse; both really cute minis. Also had some time to attend Dawes Arboretum annual plant sale --- rainy day, but that didn't deter too many people. Didn't have much time to visit; we will definitely have to go back. http://dawesarb.org/
Memorial Day weekend we spent working on the vegetable garden - laying drip irrigation, black plastic, putting up cattle panels. Planted sweet potatoes, zucchini, summer squash (saffron). And, of course, remembering all who have served our great country.
Today, absolutely beautiful day. 80's sunny skies with slight breeze. Planted seeds: butternut, acorn squash, gourds and Turks Turban. Also, tomato, pepper plants and eggplant. Below are some pictures from our gardens today:
