Unable to get to studio so I am doing some preliminary drawings for new paintings.
We have a whimsical begonia in bloom. I had to photo and draw.
Just two drawings. It's so cold out I cant go into the garden,a big storm is due in a couple of days. I guess it's still Feb.
Todays drawings.
There are possibly two paintings in this one.
This one is just a germ of an idea. I'll wait for germination changes before I declare it usable.
Thesre begonia paintings are for a Small Works exhibit for the Holidays 2016.
Feb.11
There are begonia drawings galore, now it is time to paint.
Kittens are banned from the studio, they know why.
I do drawings upstairs where its warmer and I can pick up pencil and pad whenever an image occurs to me.
I bundled all the drawings and photos and headed for the basement studio.
There was a piece of watercolor paper with a sample of wet areas then spattered paint I had made months ago. I instinctively knew it had value but at that time I had no visual applications for it. I knew something would come to mind sometime so I saved it.
When I sat down and looked at it ,there emerged some begonia silhouettes. Funny thing how that plant was on my mind I cant stop thinking about it.
I looked at the paper until the shapes sharpened .Took masking paper and masked out the blooms.
I use a stiff brush and water to scrub out the paint I didnt want in order to make the blooms emerge.
After this dries I remove the mask and proceed to sharpen details.
It's finished.
I will continue to paint begonias from the drawings above.
Feb.12 studio day.
I really should clean but there is a painting in my head and I will paint until it comes out.

Painting wasn't going so well so I stopped and just swept the studio yesterday.
I decided to make the big bluegreen painting into two separate pieces.
The quartersheet Begonia needs work so I masked as much white as possible
Let it dry then worked on it some more
Iris forum thread pricked my imagination so I am starting a new iris painting idea I have been mulling over in my mind.
I begin by drawing the flower outlines with blue Crayola crayons. It acts as a resist.
I paint the shapes with water.
Then add drops of paint. This will dry overnight. The water and paint continue to move and blend while drying takes place.
Thursday painting. Added more color
Painted some poppies just for fun
It's been awhile and I am back at the iris painting and started another one.
Not sure where this will go. Interesting upside down too.
Stage two of the second painting. I have scrapped the Iris, just cant bring it around without stepping into mor corrections.
It's Feb 10th I havnt been in the studio since December.
The above started painting is still waiting. I have the itch to paint but bursitis attack is keeping me out of the studio cause once I get down the stairs I cant cet back up.
Autumn Platycodon, based on this series of pix
Stage one, drawing and color glazes
Stage two added more dark areas and friskit plus tape. Photo was taken when friskit and paint were still wet.
Friskit must be completely dry before adding more color.
A few hours later. The shine is from the hardened friskit. Frisket will be removed later.
October 20, nearly done.
No matter how long I worked on this,I just couldnt like it. Tossed it and will start a new painting on the back.
I have some new colors started on a smaller piece.I am feelin Iris.Lets see if this one improves with time.
Not happening. I am ambivalent about that image.
However the Corn Shed is a keeper.
Started a Big Sky barn
This painting is drying.I will add some deep orange-yellow and some light blue clouds, darken the dark sky.Tomorrow.
The produce stand stays white.
Finished the Barn and sunflowers.
