The Gardening Begins
Posted on Feb 3, 2022 9:23 AM

I loved @lysmachiamoon's post today about the dark days of winter being on the wane. It is already 71 here and the high will be 81.

I really enjoyed my walk today and I extended it about an eighth of a mile. I was in such good spirits when I got home that I decided to dig up some Pink Baby's Breath and transplant it to my neighbor's garden. I sowed plenty of seed in her garden bed, but so far only one has sprouted and I wanted to give her some quick gratification. All those seeds will sprout, but I planted them too late to catch that summer-like weather we had a month ago. I think I sowed my seed in October or the first of November and they are up and looking good. They don't mind the cold and only get a little nipped by the frost. They will bloom around the middle of April.

I am struggling with a Thomas Kinkaid puzzle right now. I know that his puzzles are a strain on my eyesight, but they were only 50 cents each and one was brand new and this one has only been done once or maybe they started it and got frustrated. I will finish it though.

Peace & Plenty.🌞

Mini Jackhammer
Posted on Feb 2, 2022 11:57 AM

Almost every morning when I take my walk I see the Woodpecker on the corner of the same house pecking away at the gutter. The houses are aluminum and so is the guttering and he sounds like a mini jackhammer. On my way back he was pecking away at another house. He works hard!🐦

I moved a pile of debris yesterday that was keeping my soil from eroding. One of the downspouts washes out a lot of sand when we have heavy rains. I layered pieces of limbs with all kinds of plant material and it sort of mended the area if you will. Some of it decomposed and it looks so much better. It was a pretty deep hole. I'm glad I got that area fixed and will keep an eye on it in the future. Another thing I will do is to plant more plants above this area to keep the water from gouging out a hole.

Happy Groundhog Day everyone! I know he saw his shadow here and I just have a feeling that we will have a late frost, plus those winters we have will be so cold! Redbud, Dogwood, Snoball, and Blackberry winters. Brrrrrh! 🌞🌞🌞

Yikes

Holy jumpin' Batman! They predicted 29 for a low, but it's 26 right now. Coldest weather in a decade. I'm using the oven broiler to give our heating system a break. It ran almost constantly from 1:25 am when I got up to just under an hour ago.

I worry about power outages, etc., and so I've already put my Sunday pot roast on to cook and am doing a load of laundry on before everybody else gets up today and starts using major power.

OMG! I just want winter to be over. I'm so bad, I know.

I'm praying that the power does not go down.

Frozen
Posted on Jan 27, 2022 3:37 PM

Yep! Lot's of things frozen here. It's cloudy and dreary, but I've been very busy today. DH & I went shopping at 2 different grocery stores. That was all before lunch too! Then I did a load of laundry and worked on my seashell jigsaw puzzle. It's almost finished and then I have 2 Thomas Kincaide puzzles to do. I didn't think the seashell puzzle would be too difficult at first, but omg it's very difficult. All those pebbles, coral, and water and starfish and crabs, etc. are hard to make out and each shell has a bunch of pieces. Well, duh, it is called a jigsaw puzzle. What do I expect. Anywho, I jinxed myself by telling DH that it would be a piece of cupcake to do and it has proven me so wrong.

I took rose cuttings from my neighbor and put them in a bucket of water. Hope they root by spring and I can have some lovely smelling roses in the patio garden.

We bought a 4 slice toaster at Walmart today and it has already blown the circuit. If it does it in the morning I'll be returning that little gem. We bought a Mr. Coffee there several years ago and it leaked like a sieve the first time we used it. That went back quickly and we bought a Mr. Coffee at our favorite thrift shop and it has worked like a top. Today's products are not quality like back in the day.

I've rambled enough. Hope you are staying warm and keeping your critters warm as well. Peace & Plenty.

It's winter here
Posted on Jan 26, 2022 9:31 AM

The weather has been most unusual this year. We didn't have our hard freeze until 2 nights ago, but it's been colder for a longer span than usual. I'm not complaining, just stating the facts. Some of my plants got nipped, but they most always do and they will come back out when it warms up or I will pull up the ones that look dysfunctional. I am really impressed that my Bougainvillea didn't get frozen, but I'm sure it will on Sunday night. It's supposed to get down to 24 degrees.

It's been 2 dreary days with misty rain, cloudy, and just darkness. I sure hope to see the sun soon, but as I'm typing it has started raining hard. We certainly need it.

Yeah, I know the weather is the most talked about thing, but I just wanted to blog today.

Our new Heat/Air system works like a top. So glad we got it installed before the 20's come.

Peace & Plenty. 🌞😎🌞😎🌞😎🌞😎
