Carol ...
I didn't know until yesterday, that the Clorox wipes did not contain bleach. I've been using them, too.
I finally researched to find out what the active ingredient was in the wipes. Clorox does not make that easy. The information is not on the container. Nor is it on their site. They give you a link to go to a "Smart label" site to get the information. Then you have to go through a list of over 100 products ..... arghhhh
I am planning to follow Arturo's example and use alcohol this year.
There are so many things that can cause cane damage. Many of which I didn't mention in my last post. Margie sent me an article where it was determined that wind damage could cause almost invisible breaks in the cambian layer of plants.

There are more, but these are the sites where the fungal infections start.
I have a lot to learn about canker, so please don't take my word for it beyond that any open wound creates an opportunity for canker to start.
One of the reasons LeGrice mentioned in his book to prune as soon as the sap starts rising is that the pruning wounds heal fastest at this point in the pruning process and there is less chance of pathogens getting started.
I am still studying.
