chronological snobbery
Posted on Jan 14, 2022 2:55 PM

I am on a media fast , but that does not include my blog :

While there is not much going on in the garden I am reading , preparing seeds, and uncluttering.
...................................................................................................................................
Be wary of chronological snobbery
Newness is no virtue
Oldness no vice
''Truth and beauty and goodness are not determined by when they exist.''
''Nothing is inferior for being old, and nothing valuable for being modern.''

This truth can free you from the tyranny of novelty and open your eyes to the wisdom of the ages.

Gifts of December
Posted on Jan 2, 2022 10:38 PM

Decembers weather has to be the big surprise , a dozen days of 60 degree weather ,and all but 4 days above normal.
Not that I had much time to spend out in the garden .
Didn't bring the fish into the garage till New years eve.

Very unusual November
Posted on Nov 12, 2021 6:58 PM

Most years my gardening year ends in October but this November has been sunny and warm with no rain till yesterday.
......so of course I have procrastinated and taken advantage of the good weather
finished off winter prep today suppose to hit low 20's tonight .I saw some snow and sleet today while outside and we may have more than an inch this weekend.
this week I :
put away the umbrella and hammock
cleaned gutters and covered the last raised beds
cleared the potting bench
all house plants inside under lights
picked the last of the rosemary and some thyme.
put away the glass decorations and some bird houses

..............and ate three strawberries
sad to say there were another 8 or so only half ripe that will most likely freeze tonight.

The gardening year has to end at some point so I can make plans for next year, but I will miss time spent in the garden (MY Happy Place)

First frost
Posted on Oct 30, 2021 3:42 PM

the first frost came Wednesday morning the 27th it was not all over my basil on the south side of the house is still good , the coleus in the garden gone .The frost came after two days of rain( over 4 inches )
yesterday another 13/4 inches of rain , we are close to breaking the record for rainfall in October AND the late frost .
The fields around here that have been picked are all green again, corn up 4'' and I now see bean fields green with tiny been plants.
