this is the wild one that has been in my garden forever
I pull most as weeds but a few survive to flower and I am pleased when they do .

The August garden
Posted on Aug 8, 2021 7:35 PM

August has turned hot and dry ....may get rain tomorrow
watered things
picked beans cucumbers and squash this evening
I was gone a few days and the monsters took over

Thumb of 2021-08-09/gardengus/9cd5f8 so what is wrong with this picture??
suppose to be pickling cucumbers and the tomatoes are about half size

Lessons : straw under tomatoes invites slugs , they are destroying all the large tomatoes before they get ripe enough to pick .
never had a slug problem before.
I am going to try feeding them beer , maybe they will get too drunk to eat my tomatoes.

Lesson two : baggy shorts with huge pockets are the best for strolling the garden
This time of year I am always finding things I missed while picking.

Lesson three: If the first butterfly of the season is a cabbage white just forget the brasics
had to pull all the broccoli, nothing but stems, cabbage not much better.

On the upside filled my belly with strawberries and blackberries while picking

Rain, heat , mosquitoes
Posted on Jul 19, 2021 1:49 PM

Almost a week not getting to the garden , the darn mosquitoes have gone crazy , four inches of rain in four days .
I need a bee hat just to take out the compost , the mosquitoes get under my glasses and in my ears . We have to brush them off the dogs back before she can come in the house (they are riding her inside to attack us.)
....anyway cant remember when they have been this bad.
I have been sneaking out quickly to cut some flowers for the house.and today to take a few photos
they cost dearly at least a dozen bites , and I was fully covered.
