@Stush2019

Thank you for the compliment!
As far as seed pods yours look pink, usually that means the seeds inside are mature, but you can wait until it falls off by itself to be sure. Then carefully open it and let it air dry a few days, you should see tiny brown seeds inside. Once they are dry you can scrape them out and try growing them. Mine are in miracle gro cactus soil and I try to remove as much perlite as possible before planting. They are in a plastic Tupperware container. You get the soil wet to the touch, sprinkle seeds on top, and cover with plastic Saran Wrap you use to cover food. I have mine under a special plant grow light. Seedlings should sprout after around two weeks. If soil starts to dry mist with water from a spray bottle baby cacti cannot be allowed to dry out. As the seedlings get older (around 3 months). They will start to get tiny spines. That's when you can permanently remove the cover but always check soil daily to make sure they have moisture.

I believe it varies but anywhere from 2 to 3 years for quarter sized seedlings

Did you get a photo when the blooms opened? I have not degrafted mine yet. I will wait till they are slightly bigger next spring.

Bigger the better. Some times too small ones just shrink into nothingness. When I degrafted mine, they grew larger than the ones I left intact. However, I have the hardest time getting mine to fully open up their blooms. Mostly they fall off with out ever opening.

Yes I had the same issue and I read or saw a video that when it needs direct sun for the buds to open. So I transferred mine to the back patio where it gets sun till 10:30 am and that's when I saw the blooms fully open.

Sorry Gigi, I missed your question no I did not get any more pics . The orange plant has no buds now , can't for the life of me remember if it flowered or not .
The others flowered quite late and have just got stuck in the bud stage . The temps in greenhouse are around 6 degrees C all the time now and light levels are low . I also haven't watered since early October, so I guess there is just nothing to push them into finishing 👍

Yes, that's whar I am curious about. Mine will only open fully if the sun hits the buds directly.

😂 it's actually 2 degrees outside at night . The heater is now keeping the greenhouse at temp and I am shuddering to think what my next bill will be 😀

Share some cute baby gymnos..
Sowed on early/mid June.
Thumb of 2022-11-29/Kaktus/174a61

These are interesting ones, almost all brown / maroon color, their mother was a gymno LB that can change color from green to red, and the pollens are from cactus rebutia, sowed on 11th July
Thumb of 2022-11-29/Kaktus/97361f

Sowed on 23rd October, a mix of 4 to 5 gymnos fruits
Thumb of 2022-11-29/Kaktus/b1e18a

Another fruit that will be ready next week, I keep this one as the mother has those long spines, and the pollens also from gymno LB that can have color change, hope to get some new hybrids.

@Kaktus What is LB, and by color change from green to red do you mean stress red color when experiencing drought? I never heard of cactus changing color constantly unless from drought stress.

LB is Ludwig Bercht, the name of a Dutch Botanist who dedicated his life in research and collection of Gymnocalycium, he passed away last year. The cactus itself is a hybrid / subspecies of Gymno Friedrichii, I am not sure if Ludwig Bercht found this species or he created it by cross breeding. People name this cactus as Gymno LB as a tribute and appreciation to his dedication to the cactus world. There are some types of Gymno LB wirh some 4 numeric numbers, but the most famous one is LB2178 , every cactus lover in Indonesia will have it, or at least try to have one.

This is the youtube video of the gymno LB2178, in here the first cactus in the video, the brown and single spine one, is considered the true LB2178.

As for the color, possibly its jut a stress color, mine was purchased as green, then after 1 year it changed to brown and never revert back to green.

Checking on the 6 months old seedlings again, they looked so cute, sizes from mm to 6mm, some of them give those white powdery things growing on them, a bit worrying. I tried to brush the white thing with a brush, and it just become powder / dust and blown into the air. Maybe they are some sort of fungi.
