Roses
Oh, Ann, you have the bicolor rose bug! There is no cure (isn't that wonderful!!!!) I didn't know Della Reese had a rose named after her. I used to watch her (as a child) on the Merv Griffin show and just loved her singing! Funny, I never watched the shows she acted in. However, what a beautiful rose for a beautiful person.

I would love to try Summer Song (not that I have any room). Palatine is going to be offering several DA roses that are out of patent but not that one.

Vap, I still say you are the champ of cuttings! So far, I have had success with cuttings from Brother Cadfael and Candice. I have not tried any others. Much better success with cuttings than with seeds.

I was out in the yard this afternoon trying to figure out where I was going to put all my roses. I think I will be getting rid of Maroon 8 and planting Ascot in its spot. I am just debating on whether to do it now or wait until late spring when the plant has some new growth on it. We shall see how much gardening I get done tomorrow. I am prisoner in my own house tomorrow from 3 am to 3 pm as we have the annual marathon that runs around my neighborhood and I can't get in or out until they are done. It is quite lovely as the silence from not having traffic, cars, etc., I just love. Plus, the good weather is continuing to hold. We shall see how lazy I will be in the morning. I have company coming over for dinner tomorrow as well, so the house needs to get clean too, as well as the yard.

Beth, that's a fantastic list of so many beauties. I'm thinking perhaps focusing on the joy of roses helps with all of the other stuff you've been dealing with for the past year. I know they help me in so many ways.

MBNusts, when you can root BC and Candice -(heck, who am I kidding? If you even HAVE BC and Candice)- you've got me beat by a mile! Smiling

I agree Vap.
I think the rose replacements will offer Beth some peace knowing that they are home again with her.

I've got 2 more coming from K&M this week.
1 Scepter d' Isle
1 Soroptimist International
I have both of these roses but they are both 13 years old and are starting to slow down and look a little worn out. Scepter is down to one huge cane and SI is really struggling to look like a bush. I'll grow the new ones out in 7 1/2 gal pots next year and replace the following spring. I will probably replace my Glowing Amber. 11 years old and slowing down.

Am I the only one who lays awake at night trying to figure out placement for the new roses that are coming and I have 2 with no permanent home
In my head I spend way too much time overthinking the whole layout.
I have a Crimson Glory in a pot
I was reading about it yesterday and realized that it can get pretty tall even though it is the bush form
So, I definitely need to find a permanent home for her.
Most of the roses coming are stated as being 4ft tall
Here that really means 5 to 6 ft tall so pots aren't a long term solution
Why oh why do I still keep ordering roses
I guess I need to quit looking
Rolling on the floor laughing
You can't plant your new favorite rose if you are still watering your least favorite

Kristine, you are definitely NOT alone. I do the same all the time even for little slips of cuttings often standing in the garden talking to myself, but usually drawing graphs and elevations until I'm exhausted! And that's AFTER I get the roses. I do the same thing when ordering and then just say, 'What the heck' and order most of them. I blame it all on Forum members! : )) Hilarious!

Probably 80% of my roses are grafted. 6 (with another 3 coming in the next week or so) on Multiflora, 9 on Dr Huey and the rest of the grafted are on Fortuniana.

Kris, that is so funny! I have been trying to figure out where I am going to place all of my roses that have arrived and those coming in November of 2020. Well, last night I dreamed about the placement of my roses! I can't believe that I was trying to work out their placements in my dreams!

I was really happy to see that Regan was offering Della Reese since it was the number one stand-out for me when I visited the Capital Peace Rose Garden here in Sacramento in the early spring. It was one of the first in bloom with large purple/pink fragrant blooms. However, after checking around, I could find nowhere that it was available. When the Weeks representative visited a popular hardware store selling Weeks Roses and was available for answering questions, I asked him about the rose. He said it was never available commercially and never would be because Weeks had sold it off after it had been used for hybridizing purposes (a parent of Twilight Zone). I told him that was too bad since Della Reese had passed away (Nov., 2017) and it would be great to have it sold again in her memory. So I was surprised and happy to see it on the Regan list for "new" for 2020 (it was actually first created in the early 2000's as probably some of you know!).

I may not be finished ordering new roses but here are the ones I have on order from Regan Nursery in addition to Della Reese:

Singin' in the Rain (noted as "almost thornless" by Regan)
Sheila's Perfume
Scentuous
Forever Yours
Love Song

Some other recent purchases:

From Russian River Rose Co.- in Healdsburg:

Rosa Mundi or R. Gallica (pretty sure it's Rosa Mundi)
Smooth Lady

From Wine Country Garden Center in Sonoma:

Eyeconic Mango Lemonade

(They have the healthiest-looking roses I've ever seen and a large selection of tree roses including Violet's Pride)

2 qt. roses from J & P (won't be ordering from them again):

Cream Veranda
Sevillana
Hot Cocoa (dying)

Palatine has had some problems in one of its production fields. Because of this, it is making some adjustments in my order:

Henri Matisse and Edgar Degas are cancelled.

Chartreuse de Parme, Emma Haftl, Barock, and Augusta Luise will be sent as second-grade roses for $10.00 each.

I got that email about my roses possibly being below grade, etc. Have not gotten an update tho. The email said they would contact before the 6th if there was an issue... TODAY is the 6th.... So I assume all of my roses were ok.

I just finalized my order with Hortico. Shortened it up. Will see what they offer again after the first of the yr. I ordered: JAN STEEN, SCARLET RIPPLE, SPINNING WHEEL, DESERT PEACE, JESSIKA, JUST JOANNA, FLAMING PEACE, REBEKAH and LA PLATA SEQUICENTENNIAL (MIDNIGHT MAGIC). I just received that big order from Wisconsin roses. I'm running out of pots!!!

I hope that means your order will be unchanged, Beth. I see that your original order did not include the two roses that had to be cancelled for me.

I never received the original email about the trouble, so I thought I was in the clear, but... oh, well. I think I'd rather have second-grade roses from Palatine than first-grade roses from anywhere else. Smiling And that is an amazingly large discount. I'll be getting a credit of almost $100 and the roses are ready to ship. They'll leave Canada on Monday (11/11/19). I wish it would rain before then. It's so hard to dig holes for bare-root roses when there's been no rain for 6 or 7 months. The helper I was planning to hire to dig the holes for me is currently busy helping fire victims in the north. Bad timing.

Zuzu - yes, that's too bad about the timing. But what a great guy!!! Is there no one else you can hire to help you? You've got a big job ahead of you.

I found a new place to order roses from here in Canada. So now I know of three...Palatine, Hortico and Wildwood Outdoor Living (B.C.) From Wildwood Outdoor Living, I am getting Sedona (really wanted that one), Sheila's Perfume (been trying to get that from Hortico for 3 or 4 years), Heirloom and Easy Does It. I'm really excited about finding another place to order from...and they have Weeks roses, Austins, etc. Wahoo!

Wildwood Outdoor Living also has Koko Loco...does anyone think this rose is worth getting? Is the fragrance at least a medium? Thanks!

Canadian_Rose - good for you! glad to hear you found a new source for roses.
I think it's worth getting Koko Loco because of it's unique coloring (russet), although it has mild scent. I have it sited next to Distant Drums which has that lavender/mauve coloring in it too. Distant Drums strong fragrance kinda makes up for what Koko Loco lacks in scent. In my opinion, they look fantastic together.
