@Aashna, No, I think you did great! We will not be able to buy a Grafted with 2 or more colors for $9 here. However for us, this is already an excellent price for us though.

Thanks @gigiplumeria as I am new in adeniums I thought I got cheated 😅

Can you guide me to a thread where in I could learn proper way of growing adenium from seeds. Though I don't have any seedpods now apart from one ,want to be prepared beforehand. 😃

None that I am aware of that is why I started the thread. There were some old chats mixed in the old thread or some chats that got started but there's no continuity.

My idea is to start this thread and see how our seedpods, seeds, seedlings progress over time. This way for is who are new in growing, we can learn from it.

@gigiplumeria
Can you suggest then how to grow from seeds ?
Potting mix - will it be same as for mature plants ?
Water - ?
Sunlight -?
When to repot ?
If you can share that will be of great help .

I'm afraid I am not the best for this, I just started growing them this year and my germination rate is very low.

Calling all the other members Whistling can you please share your knowledge?

Will not be so difficult, a lot of different method by different people, means can be easily grown.
What I did
- use sterile and fine media, can be sands, cocopeat, perlite, fine pumice, charcoal, fine lava rock , or mixed of those
- soak the seeds for 2 hours
- fill media half pot, make it completely wet, then let the water drain for 30 minutes
- sow the seeds, thin cover the seeds with media roughly 1 mm
- cover the pot with plastic to maintain the moisture ( if you see too much water build up at the plastic the next morning, you may need to make some holes on the plastic, the purpose is to keep moisture, not to let the seeds and seedling dries out )
- if the seeds are good, they will sprout in 3 days to 2 weeks.
- monitor the media, make sure the media has enough moisture for the seedlings
- when they have 2 leaves, gradually introduce some sunlight and gradually open the plastic cover.
- when they have 4 leaves, or the height around 4 cm, I will add additional 1 cm of the media, as the trunk is too long as to compare with their roots.
- when you feel that they are strong enough, then repot them..

you may check the adenium challenge thread, I just sowed hundreds of seeds today, but those are expired seeds, no idea whether they can sprout or not, if they can sprout, I will make some updates in there. the pictures there is the position before I cover the seeds with a thin layer of media and plastics
If they look healthy, do nothing

My seedlings from the over 1 year old seeds that I kept in the fridge are now almost 2.5 months old. This communal pot is big enough that I am thinking of keeping these here undisturbed and if they survive 3 will be joining the adenium challenge. Two have already been promised to my friends.

Thumb of 2021-08-14/GigiPlumeria/67a94a

I transferred two 3 month old runts (or maybe they are dwarfs) into the 2 week old communal pots. The left and the right are the runts. One has healthy roots but the yellowing of leaves indicate it will not make it.

Thumb of 2021-08-14/GigiPlumeria/110eec

By the way, the seedpods of MD Addie that turned black had very low germination rate and the seeds sprouted but the seedlings were very weak and eventually died. So I only have the above 3 seedlings as survivors plus 2 the two below that look promising. I gave away the other seeds and I tried to germinate 30 seeds from my dwarf MD Addie and these are the only ones that survived. (And 5 seedlings died when I tried to transfer them when they sprouted.)

@kaktus
Thanks for explaining in detail :)

I have fine sand, coarse sand , tea leaf compost, sand grit . Can I mix all of these or only fine sand is enough ?

I will say fine sand is enough, btw, never use fertilizer or compost to sow seed. Will do more harm than good. The seed itself has enough energy to grow, wait until the seedling big enough, then slowly introduce fertilizer, if the seed is too young, giving fertilizer will kill them
If they look healthy, do nothing

I agree on this, probably the reason why my germination rate was low.

Just get this from the garden today, 16 cm medium size, total 74 seeds from 2 seedpods. If until next week the expired seeds that we sow for adenium challenge do not sprout, then I will sow this

This is the seedpod before and after. What do you think. Is it growing fine? I mean different stages of seedpod life cycle. The colour is changing from purple to some different colour.

Yes looks great to me. It looks like you are going to have a lot of seeds. Hurray!

It shouldn't be too long and it will start to split open.

Thanks Gigi 😊
Not lot of seeds but as far as I get vaible seeds iam super happy ( pod looks big in picture though , it's not very big 😁 )

Should I tie it ?

I saw one seedpod in the adenium which is in our apartment garden, that's huge . It's half green and half purple . Planning to tie it in couple of days . Smiling

I think someone said if it seemed to have stopped growing, yes, tie it. If you can watch it everyday you can wait till you see a tiny split. I tried to do that once and I forgot about it Sad

Everyday Hilarious! I go 6-7 times and watch my plants. I don't have much but since it is in balcony I can afford to visit often. I keep a watch regarding their South drying out, leaves turning yellow, water in the trays , watching seed pod etc. And these days- making my adeniums wear raincoat Rolling on the floor laughing as it's raining almost daily at night. Grin

Till now I don't see any split.. How does a tiny split look? Will it be an tiny opening ?

The thread "Seedpod/seeds of my neighbor's adeniums" in Photo of Adeniums (Adenium)

@purpleinopp great point Thumbs up I posted it in the photo so I could track what my neighbor's adeniums babies would look like from seedpod to seedling.

My idea was to create milestone photos from parent photo then photos of the seeds then seedlings Hilarious! because in the chat thread it gets lost over time.
